BIOGRAPHY

Chris Parker was born in England in February 1978 and grew up in the West Midlands. He began playing golf at the age of 8, influenced by his father who is an avid golfer. It was quickly identified that Chris had a natural talent for the game and progressed quickly, competing in many amateur and junior tournaments at club and county level, before attending University of Central England. After having a successful University career it was only natural for Chris to pursue a career in golf, turning professional in 1998. In 2002 Chris graduated from the PGA of Great Britain gaining Distinction in Coaching. It was during this time period that Chris was drawn to the teaching and philosophy of David Leadbetter where he began his Leadbetter Certification. In 2005, after successfully completing his certification, he began working for the David Leadbetter Golf Academy in Timmendorfer Strand, Germany, moving in 2010 to the Academy in Munich as Senior Instructor and Head of Training. In 2013 an opportunity arose for Chris to return to England where he took on the position of Director of golf for the newly established Leadbetter Academy at Leeds Golf Centre. Now settled down Harrogate for the past 12 years and bringing up his young family, Chris is looking forward to the new opportunities awaiting him at The Grooves Golf Academy at the prestigious Rudding Park Hotel Golf & Country Club.

TRUE GOLFING FACT - WHERE GOLFER LOSE MOST SHOTS

Research has proven that golfers lose almost 80 percent of their shots to par inside of 100 yards from the hole. To that end, our golf school curriculum focuses strictly on what I define as “The Scoring Game,” a combination of the short game (distance wedges, pitching, chipping, sand play) and putting, which comprise 60 to 65 percent of the total number of shots played per round. From three-foot putts to full wedge and long bunker shots, at this truly unique golf school, you’ll learn to properly execute shots from any scoring position.

If you have difficulty controlling distance when you face short shots, it may be because you find a small, delicate swing with a short backswing to be a more difficult swing to make than a long backswing. Research shows this to be true for any level of player. One problem with the short backswing is that there is not much time to get your body parts synchronised. It is the same feeling you may have over very short putts: You jab with the hands because you feel there is not enough time to get the flow and rhythm of the stroke.

THIS DRILL HELPED ME TURN PRO.

There was a time I used to feel long at the top of my backswing, disconnected and have very little synchronisation throughout my golf swing which led to the occasional stray shots.

My mentor, @Davidleadbetter showed me this drill
it was something he used to do with Nick faldo, one of my childhood golfing idols. This drill helped shorten and tighten up the swing and have everything working together as one in a synchronised fashion without any lose of distance, to be honest the strike was pure. ❤️πŸ‘

Place a towel behind your back and under your armpits. When you take your address position, the towel should feel slightly taut across your back when you attempt, making your practice swing you will feel that body and arms will work more together in a synchronised fashion. The swing will feel shorter and tighter while doing this.
Make sure the towel does not fall from underneath your arms at any point. πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘

Give it a try and be patient with itπŸ‘Š

HOW YOUR LAG WORKS DURING YOUR DOWNSWING

The Way you ease up during the Downswing

Easing up on the downswing is important when it comes to speeding up the clubhead toward impact. We call the indicator for revealing how you ease up on the power "natural uncock."

More detail...

From the latest findings in sports science(*), we have learned through the modeling of golf swings as pendular movement that the energy of the arms can be more effectively delivered to the club using the natural acceleration of the club itself. In these models, the natural acceleration of the club is utilized by power in the arms being relaxed during the downswing, causing the club head to accelerate.
Natural uncock shows to what extent the speed of one's arms is releasing power, from its maximum to the time of impact.

The reading will be 0% if no power is released, and when power is released, it will rise in keeping with the extent to which it is. If the reading is below 30%, please give thought to how you use power up to the point of impact and look for a timing that will hasten the head speed. Incidentally, in our data, the average of natural uncock for male pros and female pros are about 40% and about 20%, respectively.

There used to be a time where I would be inconsistent with the takeaway moving the club away a foot or so from the ball.

I used this drill to fix that problem for once and for all.

Place an alignment stick diagonally between the heel of your left and toe of your right foot in your setup, move the club away around a foot while keeping the line of the shaft online parallel with the alignment stick. You will notice from down the line the club will stay perfectly on plane.

In my case you will have noticed that during the takeaway practice swing the the club is slightly under the line but parallel on plane this is to gain an extra feel so the club will move on plane during the shot

Give it a try and be patient with itπŸ‘Š

A GOOD GRIP BUILDS CONFIDENCE

Confidence doesn’t come from a tip.

It comes from knowing your hands are in the right place on the club before the swing even starts.

The Grip Check,Training Grip gives you that. And now, it’s built even better. Clean shape. Strong feel. Designed to teach your hands exactly where they belong—without second-guessing.

Its made tougher. More refined and ready to take the guesswork out of your setup.

No more wondering if your grip is causing that slice. No more “what am I doing wrong?” after a mishit. This grip trainer eliminates the doubt.

You hold it. You feel it. You swing. And your hands do what they’re supposed to—again and again.

Every rep builds trust. Every move teaches control. You’re not just fixing a flaw. You’re building the foundation for a swing you can rely on when it matters.

Stock is low so don’t miss out to get one today. Confidence like this doesn’t not stay on the shelf for long.

PRE-SHOT ROUTINE TIP πŸ‘Œ

After making all of your pre-shot decisions – what shot to hit, how to swing and with what club – the next step is to focus on visualizing the look and feel of the perfect swing. The goal of this preparation process is to see and feel the exact swing you are going to make before you try to make it happen for real. One or two practice swings may or may not be enough. Your last practice swing should feel exactly right for the shot you want to hit. If it feels right, you are ready to go; if not, make another one, two, or three swings as necessary, until you are completely comfortable. When your mind’s eye says, “Yes, that’s the swing I want, that’s my ‘perfect preview swing’,” lock onto that image. With the look and feel of the perfect swing fresh in your mind and muscles, you are ready to move into your address position, start your pre-shot ritual (waggle) and hit the shot.

YOU DON’T NEED TO MUSCLE YOUR SWING. WANTING TO HIT THOSE DRIVES FURTHER AND SHOTS FEEL SMOOTH?

Do you ever feel like you're swinging as hard as you can, but the ball just doesn’t go as far as it should?

The problem isn’t your strength. It’s not your swing speed. It’s ground force and strike pattern.

Ground force is the power you need to send that ball sailing and it's right under your feet. When you master ground force, you learn how to transfer power from the ground, through your legs, and straight into your club.

That’s when things start to change. Drives go further. Shots feel smooth. You don’t need to “muscle” your swing—because your body is finally working with you, not against you.

Picture this: You set up for a swing, relax your grip, and let your weight shift into your back foot. As you start your downswing, you push against the ground, feeling that pressure build in your legs. The clicking motion from the step toe create a smooth tempo for you swing. Then, BOOM—you let it all release through your body, right to the ball.
And it flies.
Straight, powerful, no wasted effort.
That’s what mastering ground force can do for you.

The best part? You can practice it anywhere. You don’t need heavy weights or fancy machines. Just focus on engaging your legs, shifting weight, and feeling that “push” from the ground up.

The “Step Toe”  is created to give you immediate feedback and show you exactly how to tap into this hidden source of power. If you’ve been trying to get more distance without success, this is your missing piece.

In the training video below, you'll discover how to put that strength you already have to work.

TIPS FOR WINTER TRAINING

FROM THE TEE Alignment Never assume the mat is pointing in the right direction. Use a pre-shot routine that makes sure you are lined up correctly. Solid base Especially in windy conditions and off the mats. Widen your stance and keep the lower half of your body quiet. Keep it straight You’ll get less run in the winter. Try a fairway wood to improve consistency and you won’t lose all that much distance. IRON PLAY Grade your lie Stand with your back to the flag and “grade” your lie. Think traffic lights – attack (green), lay up (yellow) or knock out sideways (red). Mud ball Take more club than usual and swing easy to reduce spin and help keep it online. SHORT GAME Get it rolling Use a rescue club or fairway wood on temporary greens and putt how you would normally. Keep it low The chip and run reduces the chances of mis-hits and unpredictable bounces – compared to the high, lob shot. Wet sand The lob wedge can be very useful. Make a smooth, shallow swing. You don’t need to open the face or your stance.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I USED TO HAVE A PELIC SWAY TOWARDS MY RIGHT SIDE DURING MY BACKSWING

This stopped me at the time from transitioning correctly during the downs Pring creating an array of problems. I placed an alignment deck outside of my right foot and placed an umbrella or another alignment stick that was behind me and was in line with my right leg. As I rehearse my back swing, I made sure my right pocket went back behind me and tried to create a gap between the umbrella / alignment stick during the back swing. This resulted in reducing my pelvis sway towards my right side during the back swing. 
